Halloweens of Yester Year - How Our Grandparents predominant Halloween

Today Halloween has come to be over commercialized with fellowships promoting a wide range of products while using Halloween as the theme to promote extra deals and prices. But have you considered what Halloween was like back in roaring 1920s when your grandparents were celebrating the holiday. Life was much simpler back in these days and so was socializing with friends and family.

As Halloween was a uncomplicated holiday, many families used the occasion as a get together to have some spooky fun. For many families though, money was tight and there was not sufficient to spend on lavish once a year parties. One crepe paper builder named Dennisons, in the early 1920s recognized the above and saw an opportunity. They put together an reasonable book titled Dennisons Bogie Book of Halloween ideas that had costume patterns, games, food ideas and embellishment cutouts. The costumes and cut outs were all designed in the fellowships range of crepe paper, perfect with step by step instructions and color codes.

Halloween

The fellowships book became an instant success allowing many families to host themed parties, all done in crepe paper. As the crepe paper business went in to distinct products over the years, the book became scarce then as 1930s and 40s came along died out altogether. Any years ago, a copy of the book was located and re digitalised perfect with diagrams, instructions and pictures and is once again available to those seeking a low cost and fun Halloween.
